He served as Director of the Institute of Small- Scale Indistries and the Resource Generation Staff of the University of the Philippines. He serves as the Chairman of Omnipay, Inc. He has been an Independent Director at Frontier Oil Corporation since June 28, 2013. He serves as an Independent Director of Yanmar Philippines, TECO Philippines, Sun Life Prosperity GS Funds, Inc., Sun Life of Canada Prosperity Balanced Fund, Inc., Sun Life of Canada Prosperity Fund, Inc. and Sunlife Prosperity Dollan Wellspring Fund, PhilsFirst Insurance and Tanay Rural Bank.

He serves as an Independent Director of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation since June 27, 2016. He has been an Independent Director of Concepcion Industrial Corporation since November 27, 2013. He served as an Independent Director of Metro Alliance Holdings & Equities Corp. from 2005 to December 12, 2006. He served as an Independent Director of Century Peak Metals Holdings Corp. until March 8, 2011. He is Chairman of the Financial Executives Institute of Philippines (FINEX) Foundation. Mr. Salazar is a Trustee of Small Enterprise Research & Development Foundation.

He was an Associate Professor of the College of Business Administration at University of the Philippines. He is the first Filipino to receive the Special Honor Award from the World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME). He graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from the University of the Philippines in 1971 and attended Executive Training Programs in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, the Harvard Business School, the New York Institute of Finance and the Studienzentrum Gerzensee in Switzerland.
